Network Infrastructure Design & Topology Planning in NYC

Physical network topology, switch and equipment planning, connectivity requirements and technical documentation for commercial projects across New York City.

LVWave provides physical network infrastructure design for new construction, renovations and technology upgrades across New York City. Design can include network equipment locations, physical topology, switch and port requirements, PoE capacity, rack and telecom-room coordination, uplink requirements and technical documentation before installation begins. This is physical infrastructure planning, not firewall, routing or cybersecurity architecture.

Network Infrastructure Design Only or Design + Installation

LVWave can provide network infrastructure design as a standalone service when another contractor or IT team will perform the installation and configuration, or combine the design with LVWave network installation. The design scope is defined around the project requirements, available drawings, connected systems, existing conditions and required deliverables.

Network Requirements & Connected Systems

Physical network infrastructure should be planned around the systems that will actually connect to it. Depending on the project, this may include workstations, Wi-Fi access points, IP security cameras, phones, POS equipment and other network-connected devices.

These requirements can be used to estimate equipment locations, switch-port demand, PoE requirements and physical connectivity needs within the agreed design scope.

Equipment Locations & Physical Network Topology

Network equipment locations are planned around the building layout, telecom spaces, connected systems and cabling distribution. Design can define where switches or other required network equipment are located and how those locations physically interconnect within the project.

Switch Port & PoE Capacity Planning

Network equipment requirements depend on the number and type of connected devices. Design can include estimated switch-port requirements and PoE demand for devices such as wireless access points and IP cameras so equipment capacity is considered before installation.

Capacity planning is based on the known project requirements and does not imply guaranteed future network demand.

Uplink & Backbone Connectivity Requirements

Where network equipment locations must connect to each other or to a main distribution location, design can identify the required physical uplink or backbone connectivity. Copper or fiber requirements can be coordinated with Structured Cabling Design based on distance, capacity and project conditions.

This page defines the network-side connectivity requirement. Structured Cabling Design handles the detailed physical cable media, pathways and cabling infrastructure.

Rack & Telecom Room Coordination

Network infrastructure design can identify rack-space requirements, equipment locations and basic physical layout requirements for switches and related network equipment within MDF, IDF and other telecom spaces.

Where relevant, equipment power or UPS requirements may be identified as coordination information for the project team, but LVWave does not provide electrical branch-circuit or electrical distribution design. Cabling and telecom-space infrastructure is coordinated naturally with Structured Cabling Design.

Coordination with Other Low-Voltage Systems

Network infrastructure supports systems such as structured cabling, Wi-Fi access points, IP security cameras, phones and other network-connected equipment. Physical network planning can be coordinated with the relevant LVWave design disciplines — including Structured Cabling Design, Wi-Fi Design & Site Survey and CCTV Design — so equipment locations, port capacity, PoE requirements and connectivity are based on the systems planned for the project.

Network Infrastructure Design & Documentation

Depending on project scope, network infrastructure design deliverables may include:

Physical Network Topology Diagrams
Switch / Network Equipment Location Plans
Rack / Telecom Room Equipment Layouts
Network Equipment / Switch Schedules
Switch Port Capacity Requirements
PoE Capacity / Device Load Requirements
Uplink / Backbone Connectivity Requirements
Copper / Fiber Connectivity Requirements
Network Interconnection Diagrams
Coordination with Structured Cabling Plans
Equipment Requirements / Bill of Materials
As-Built Network Infrastructure Documentation

Deliverables vary by project and are defined by the agreed design scope. Not every project includes every drawing, calculation, schedule or equipment list shown above.

FAQ

Network Infrastructure Design FAQ

How much does network infrastructure design cost in NYC?
Pricing depends on project size, number of network equipment locations, connected systems, required capacity planning, available base drawings, existing conditions and the amount of technical documentation or coordination included in the scope. LVWave can review the project information and provide an estimate based on the required design work.
Can you design network infrastructure from architectural plans, CAD files or PDFs?
Yes. Depending on the project, physical network infrastructure design can be developed from architectural floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, CAD files, PDFs and other available project information. Existing network or telecom-room information may also be useful for renovation and upgrade projects.
Can another contractor or IT team install a network designed by LVWave?
Yes. Network infrastructure design and technical documentation can be provided as a standalone service for implementation by another contractor or IT team. Design can also be combined with LVWave network installation.
Can network design include switch-port and PoE capacity planning?
Yes. Where included in the project scope, LVWave can estimate switch-port requirements and PoE demand based on known connected devices such as Wi-Fi access points, IP cameras and other network equipment.
What is the difference between Network Infrastructure Design and Structured Cabling Design?
Network Infrastructure Design focuses on physical network topology, active network equipment locations, switch-port and PoE requirements and how network equipment locations connect. Structured Cabling Design focuses on the physical cable infrastructure, including telecommunications outlets, copper and fiber cabling, pathways, backbone cabling and telecom spaces. The two disciplines can be coordinated when a project requires both.
Does Network Infrastructure Design include VLAN, firewall or IP configuration?
This design service focuses on physical network infrastructure and technical documentation rather than firewall, cybersecurity or detailed logical-network configuration. VLAN configuration may be handled separately as part of network installation or support where applicable.
Do you provide stamped or sealed network engineering drawings?
No. LVWave provides physical network infrastructure design and technical documentation, but does not provide professional engineering or architectural seals. If a project requires stamped or sealed drawings or other professional sign-off, that work must be provided or reviewed by the appropriately licensed professional.
